Alex Armesilla-Díaz

Senior Director - Cell Engineering and iPSC Biology at Resolution Therapeutics

Alex Armesilla-Díaz has extensive experience in the field of cell engineering and biology, with a focus on stem cells and disease modeling. Starting in 2004, they worked as a PhD student at the Spanish Council for Scientific Research, where they studied the functions of the tumor suppressor protein p53 in various cell populations. Alex then went on to work as a postdoctoral researcher at the WIMM-University of Oxford, investigating pathways involved in cancer stem cells and cancer development.

In 2010, Alex joined the Paul O'Gormal Leukemia Research Centre/Beatson Institute-University of Glasgow as a postdoctoral research associate. Here, they focused on the role of Cited2 in leukemia and conducted proteomic studies to identify and validate interactors of Cited2. Alex also studied metabolic profiles in primary cultures.

Following their time at the University of Glasgow, Alex became a postdoctoral researcher at the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine-University of Edinburgh. Here, they studied the role of Cited2 in the reprogramming process using different approaches.

In 2014, Alex joined Horizon Discovery as a senior scientist/team lead in cell engineering and gene editing. Alex led projects using CRISPR in primary cultures and cell lines, with a particular focus on creating genetically defined iPSCs for disease modeling.

Next, Alex worked at GSK as an investigator in functional genomics. Alex'sresponsibilities included developing and industrializing differentiation protocols for cell supply at a large scale using iPSCs, primary cultures, and novel cellular models. Alex also collaborated with internal and external partners to evaluate disease models and generated biology data packages.

In 2020, Alex joined Censo Biotechnologies as a senior manager in science and operations. Alex played a key role in the scientific and operational management of both the Cambridge and Edinburgh sites. Alex was involved in strategic planning, scientific program development, and team and platform development.

Most recently, Alex is currently working at Resolution Therapeutics as a senior director in cell engineering and iPSC biology, a position they have held since April 2023. Additionally, they also hold the role of director in cell engineering, which they started in July 2021.

Alex Armesilla-Díaz has a strong education history in the field of Molecular Biology. From 1998 to 2003, they attended Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. This was followed by enrollment at Universidad Complutense de Madrid from 2004 to 2006, where they earned a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Lastly, from 2006 to 2009, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology at the same university.
