Gopinath Balasundaram has had extensive work experience in the hospitality industry. Gopinath began their career as a Banquet Manager at Taj Group of Hotels- Taj Connemara in 1991. Gopinath then worked as a Resort Manager at Sterling Holiday Resorts India Ltd. from 1994 to 1997. Gopinath then moved on to Elephant Bay Beach Resort, where they served as the General Manager from 1997 to 2001. Gopinath joined The Residency Hotels as a General Manager in 2002 and progressed to the role of Vice President & General Manager from 2008 to 2012. Gopinath then became Vice President from 2012 to 2014 before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer of RRMPL, the owning company of St. Regis- Maldives. Gopinath's most recent role is the Chief Executive Officer of The Residency Hotels, a position they have held since 2023.
Gopinath Balasundaram completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Madras from 1989 to 1992. Gopinath then pursued a degree in Hotel Management from IHMCT Chennai, specializing in Hospitality management, from 1982 to 1985. Later on, they obtained a Post Graduation degree in Hotel Management from the Hotel Management School, where they studied from 2006 to 2008. Additionally, they completed a Certificate course in Revenue management and dynamic pricing strategy from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. However, no specific dates are provided for their enrollment in this program.
