Tapan Kumar Mohanta began their work experience as a Young Professional at UNICEF India in 2017, where they contributed to the design and development of Android apps and played a key role in creating user manuals. In 2018, they joined Reach India Trust as a State Project Manager, where they managed a team and worked with various officials to achieve targets related to the Open Defecation Free (ODF) program. In the same year, Tapan co-founded Biraja Biodigester Agency. In 2019, they joined UNDP as a Project Assistant, specifically serving as City Lead in Varanasi Nagar Nigam for the Plastic Waste Management Programme. Tapan is currently working as a Project Lead - Hyper local Center at Recykal.com, starting in 2022.

Tapan Kumar completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Water Sanitation and Hygiene (PGD-WASH) from Tata Institute of Social Sciences from 2016 to 2017. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering from Utkal University from 2011 to 2016.

For their secondary education, they attended Kalinga Xavier's College from 2009 to 2011, where they completed their 12th grade with a focus on science, including subjects such as mathematics, computer, physics, chemistry, and English.

Tapan Kumar'sprimary education took place at Saint Mary's School from 1997 to 2009, where they completed their 10th grade with a comprehensive curriculum covering various subjects, including English, mathematics, science, computer, history, civics, environmental education, and value education.

In addition to their formal education, Tapan Kumar Mohanta has obtained several certifications. These include courses such as "Introduction to Faecal Sludge Management" from Coursera in March 2021, "Management of Solid Waste and Wastewater" from NIRDPR-National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in October 2020, "Standard precautions: Waste management" from the World Health Organization in May 2020, and "Child rights and why they matter" from UNICEF in April 2020, among others.
