Thomas Loridan

Chief Science Officer at Reask

Thomas Loridan's work experience begins in 2004 as a Student Intern at the Finnish Meteorological Institute. Thomas then went on to intern at the Spanish Meteorological Institute in 2005. From 2006 to 2007, they worked as a Student Intern at Météo France, where they focused on modeling snow-atmosphere interactions. In 2007, they became a Research Support Engineer at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. From 2008 to 2011, Thomas worked as a PHD Researcher at King's College London, where they evaluated the Weather Research and Forecasting model.

In 2011, Thomas joined RMS as a Lead Catastrophe Modeller, where they developed parametric tropical cyclone wind models and wind speed corrections for the Japan Typhoon model. Thomas worked there until 2015 when they joined Risk Frontiers as a Lead Data Scientist and Catastrophe Modeller. At Risk Frontiers, Thomas developed a machine learning-based wind field model for tropical cyclones in Australia and Japan.

In 2018, Thomas became the CEO and Co-Founder of Reask, a technology startup serving the global insurance industry in the field of catastrophe risk management and forecasting. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Science Officer at Reask.

Thomas Loridan's education history begins in 2002, when they enrolled at ENSEIRB-MATMECA and pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Mathematical Modelling. Thomas completed their studies in this field in 2005. In 2005, they joined the University of Reading and pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Weather, Climate, and Modelling. Thomas completed this program in 2006. Following their time at the University of Reading, Thomas Loridan went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Boundary Layer Meteorology at King's College London, starting in 2008 and finishing in 2011.
