Steve Garlick began their work experience as a Software Engineer at Insight Industries, Inc (now Easterline Avista) in 1988. Steve then moved on to work as a Senior Software Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace from 1991 to 2005. Following that, they worked as a Software Engineer at Astronautics Corporation of America from 2006 to 2009. Steve then joined Belcan Engineering in 2010 as a Senior Software Verification Engineer, where they were responsible for Avionics Software Verification for the Boeing 787 Flight Controls. Steve also worked on software test for the Boeing 777 Central Maintenance Computing Function at Real Time Consulting LLC starting from 2011, along with previous efforts on software verification for the Gulfstream G650 Flight Management and the Boeing 787 Flight Management.

Steve Garlick attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville from 1981 to 1986, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. Additionally, they also studied Computer Science during the same time period at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Prior to their higher education, Steve Garlick attended Westby High School, although specific dates and degrees earned are not provided.
