Paul Stetson is the CSO at Raydiant Oximetry. Paul has held this position for 5 months. Prior to that, they were a research scientist at Google for 1 year and 2 months, and before that they were at Fitbit for 4 years and 5 months. At Fitbit, they worked on signal analysis for fitness wearables, relating to optical heart rate measurement, electrodermal activity measurement, and accelerometer motion analysis. Paul also evaluated alternative signal processing and optical designs, and significantly increased the speed of signal processing firmware. Paul coordinated research activities relating to two products, including the Fitbit Ace children’s edition.
Before Fitbit, Paul was a Sr. Staff Scientist at Carl Zeiss Meditec for 12 years and 5 months. There they worked on image and signal processing algorithm design for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) systems used in ophthalmology. Paul developed new visualizations and segmentations of 3-D data used by academic clinical researchers and practicing ophthalmologists and optometrists, as well as new ways to visualize focal pathology. Paul also devised a robust method for finding fovea location and researched new statistical diagnostics for Glaucoma. In addition, they applied pattern recognition to characterization of pathology, developed new image analysis for prediction of disease progression, helped define appropriate data acquisition and processing for new instrumentation, and evaluated, improved, and integrated externally developed algorithms.
Clinical collaboration was a big part of Paul’s work at Carl Zeiss Meditec – they worked closely with the Clinical department and university researchers to define study protocols and evaluate results. Paul was also the external research liaison, guiding and evaluating external algorithm development and developing analysis tools for university clinical researchers. As a technical leader, they reviewed algorithms with colleagues and suggested new approaches, as well as reviewed internal and external intellectual property.
Paul Stetson has a PhD and MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, where their dissertation was on Signal processing applied to medical ultrasound imaging. Paul also has a degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences from University of California, Berkeley. Paul is currently taking courses on Python programming from LinkedIn.
The team that Paul Stetson works with includes Patricia Yazolino, Mark Rosen, Russ DeLonzor, Debra Snowdale, and Laura Kemp.
