Alexander Vernet

Principal Software Engineer at Raft

Alexander Vernet has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Alexander began their career as a Benefit Technical Examiner in the Office of Central Operations at the Social Security Administration, where they underwent training to become a Benefit Authorizer. In this role, they used substantive analysis to make benefit determinations and provided assistance to Social Security benefits recipients.

Afterwards, Alexander worked as a Technical Expert/Instructor at the Social Security Administration, where they provided formal technical training to new employees on financial benefits analysis, communication, disclosure policy, and federal SSA policies and procedures. Alexander also managed and trained a diverse group of over 100 employees and identified a significant bug in a widely used software application.

Alexander then transitioned into the field of software development, taking on the role of a Software Developer at the Social Security Administration. In this role, they served as a full stack developer on a successful agile web-based software project. Their responsibilities included front-end development using AngularJS, writing clean and reusable javascript code, designing and developing UI using HTML and CSS, and developing web services using JAX-RS. Alexander also played a key role in integrating TDD and BDD into the team's approach to the SDLC.

Afterwards, Alexander worked as a Software and DevOps Engineer at CollabraSpace, where they focused on software and DevOps engineering. Following that, they worked as a DevOps Engineer at iNovex.

Most recently, Alexander held roles at iC-1 Solutions and Raft. At iC-1 Solutions, they started as an SME Software Engineer and later took on the role of Software Engineer Team Lead. As a Team Lead, they were responsible for generating alignment across multiple teams, creating technical initiatives, coaching engineers, and providing technical and strategic leadership. Alexander made significant contributions such as driving the adoption of a long-term technical roadmap, implementing continuous integration, and eliminating testing bottlenecks.

Currently, Alexander is working as a Principal Software Engineer at Raft.

Alexander Vernet received their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland Global Campus in the years 2015 to 2018. Prior to that, from 2003 to 2008, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science and Government from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. During the same period, they also earned a Certificate in the Human Context of Science and Technology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
