Santiago Corujeira Gallo has a diverse work experience in the field of materials engineering and research. Santiago currently holds a position as a Senior Materials Engineer at Quantum Brilliance, where they contribute to the growth of quantum diamonds using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques. Santiago also collaborates with research teams from RMIT and La Trobe University on an ARC Linkage project.
Before their current role, Santiago worked at Deakin University, where they held multiple positions. As an Honorary Research Fellow, they continue to contribute to the university's research activities. Santiago also worked as a Senior Research Fellow and Project Manager, overseeing HDR students and postdoctoral research fellows, disseminating research outcomes, and managing relationships with other research institutions and industrial partners. Additionally, they served as a Research Engineer at the university.
Santiago also gained research experience at the University of Birmingham, where they worked as an Honorary Research Fellow and Research Fellow. Santiago'swork focused on surface functionalization of carbon fibers for use in composites and supercapacitors. Santiago was also involved in plasma surface engineering of various materials.
Prior to their time at Deakin University and the University of Birmingham, Santiago worked at CSIRO as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Process Science and Engineering. Santiago'sresponsibilities included developing hard and wear-resistant coatings for industrial applications and conducting lab scale tests and pilot scale trials.
Santiago's earlier experience includes working as a Research Engineer at Plasmar Tecnologia, where they expanded the surface engineering treatments portfolio and provided technical support to sales representatives. Santiago also served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at CNEA, where they selected suppliers of thermal barrier coatings for aerospace applications and evaluated their thermal and mechanical properties.
Additionally, Santiago worked as a Metallurgist and Researcher at Advanced Surface Engineering Ltd., specializing in failure analysis of gas nitrided and nitrocarburized components and suggesting preventative and remediation actions.
Overall, Santiago Corujeira Gallo has a strong background in materials engineering, research, and project management, with expertise in various surface engineering techniques and coatings.
Santiago Corujeira Gallo completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, which lasted from 1997 to 2004. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued further academic achievements by enrolling in the University of Birmingham from 2005 to 2009. During this time, Santiago obtained their PhD in Metallurgy and Materials.
In addition to their educational qualifications, Santiago achieved certifications that have contributed to their professional experience. Santiago became a Chartered Engineer in June 2015 through the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Santiago also obtained the certification of Professional Engineer (skill level 1) from Engineers Australia in February 2014.
