Bianca Sawyer has had a varied work experience in the field of physics. In 2022, they began working as the Research Laboratory Manager at Quantum Brilliance. From 2018 to 2022, they worked at Macquarie University as the School Technical Manager (Mathematical and Physical Sciences). In this role, they led a team of technical professionals and managed and maintained technical facilities and laboratory equipment, designed and improved Faculty processes related to laboratory management and WHS, and managed teaching laboratory operations and casual academic staff. Bianca also held the role of Senior Scientific Officer at Macquarie University. From 2010 to 2018, Bianca worked at the University of Otago as a Lab Demonstrator and Tutor, Research Assistant, and JumpStart Physics Tutor. In these roles, they assisted with and led a wide range of undergraduate laboratory and tutorial sessions, explained physical concepts and helped students learn to use technical experimental equipment, and tutored a group of around twenty students in a traditional classroom setting.
Bianca Sawyer has a comprehensive education history. Bianca obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with Honours in Physics from the University of Otago in 2011, followed by a Master of Science (MSc) in Physics from the same university in 2013. In 2015, they were a Visiting Researcher at the University of Arizona in Physics. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics from the University of Otago in 2020. In addition to their academic accomplishments, Bianca also holds certifications from various institutions, including Level 3 Operator Laser Safety from UNSW Canberra (2019), Provide basic emergency life support, Provide First Aid, and Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation from Surf Life Saving NSW (2018), and Mental Health First Aider from Mental Health First Aid Australia (2020).
