Shirley Machaba has extensive work experience with PwC, starting in 2005 as a Partner and later becoming a member of the Global board. Shirley held various leadership roles within PwC, including Africa Diversity and Inclusion Leader and Partner In Charge of the Menlyn office. In 2019, they became the CEO of PwC South Africa and the Regional Senior Partner for PwC Southern Africa. Shirley was also involved in developing the Risk Assurance Services strategy in Southern Africa. Apart from PwC, Machaba served as Chairman of the IIA Global Institute Relations Committee and held multiple positions within IIA South Africa, including President and Senior Vice President. Before joining PwC, they worked at the Department of Justice-SA as the Head of Internal Audit and at the Auditor General of South Africa as a Performance Audit Manager. Shirley began their career as a Trainee Accountant at Coopers&Lybrand.
Shirley Machaba began their education at Vhulaudzi High School from 1983 to 1987, focusing on Accounting and Auditing. Shirley then pursued various degrees and diplomas, including a B Cm Honours in Accounts, Bcompt Honours/CTA, Post Graduate Diploma in Auditing, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting and Auditing from UNISA, RAU, and IIA between 1992 and 2002. Shirley furthered their education by completing a degree in Corporate Governance from Duke University in 2014. In 2015, they obtained a Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership (QIAL) from IIA Global, with a focus on Organizational Leadership and stakeholder management. Additionally, they completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrated Reporting from the University of Pretoria, specializing in Corporate Strategic Communication, information and knowledge management, and strategic leadership. Most recently, they completed the Chartered Director program at IoD SA, with a focus on Corporate Governance and being an effective and courageous director in any industry.
