Alex Baker is Chief Operating Officer for John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a public health consulting firm. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of JSI’s 3,000 employees working in 45 countries. He is also closely involved in JSI’s strategic planning and organizational development efforts. Alex is also the COO for World Education, Inc. (WEI), a JSI affiliate which focuses on improving the lives of disadvantaged populations through education and social support services. WEI has 500 employees working in 15 countries. Alex’s background includes positions in financial management, operations, and information systems in a variety of healthcare-related settings.

Prior to JSI, Alex was Chief Operating Officer for Partners Community Healthcare, Inc. (PCHI), the provider network for Partners Healthcare System. At Partner’s, his responsibilities include network operations and performance management, practice operations, finance, and human resources. Alex joined PCHI in July 1999 as its director of finance, and was subsequently made Chief Financial Officer and then COO in 2005. Alex has a Bachelor of Arts in history from Harvard College, and a Masters in Business Administration from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
