Dan Watley

Director of Hardware Engineering at Prysm Systems

Dan Watley has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Dan began their career as a Hardware Engineer at National Semiconductor, where they designed board level systems with Multibus and worked on CPU and DAC cards. Following this, they joined Televideo Inc. as a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, where they developed peripheral custom modems and high volume, low-cost products.

In 1990, Watley became a Senior Project Manager at MerchanTec Inc. / Indesys Inc., where they played a key role in developing a credit authorization terminal with a Z80 processor and various components such as LCD display, magnetic card reader, and keyboard.

Dan then worked as a Hardware Engineering Manager at Wireless Transaction Corporation, where they innovatively designed a wireless electronic transaction system using DS spread spectrum communication. Additionally, they designed a central office simulator and completed the layout of a 6-layer PCB.

From 1997 to 1999, Watley was the Owner and Design Consultant at Bayview Electronics Consulting, where they created turn-key products, including circuit design, PCB design, documentation, and software programming, with a particular emphasis on PIC processors.

Subsequently, they joined ActiveVideo Networks Inc. as a Senior Hardware Engineering Manager. Dan managed multiple multi-discipline engineering design teams and was responsible for project management. Watley also designed cost-effective server products with Hot Swap capabilities and implemented a remote management system.

At Sierra Wireless, Watley served as the Senior Hardware Engineering Manager, overseeing design teams in three different locations. Dan worked on embedded cellular routers and gateways with various communication interfaces and control and communication applications.

Prior to their current role, Watley was the Director of Hardware Engineering and Labs at Panasas, managing a team responsible for creating high-performance computing (HPC) hardware. Dan worked on projects involving Ethernet and Infiniband connectivity and developed linear scalable storage products for multi-petabyte installations.

Currently, Watley is the Director of Hardware Engineering at Prysm Systems, where they lead the hardware engineering department.

Dan Watley attended California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where they pursued a degree in Electronic Engineering. The exact start and end year of their education at this institution are not provided.
