Paul Mackay has worked for seven different companies since 1999. Paul began their career at Symbian as a Senior Software Engineer in 1999. In 2003, they moved to Nokia, where they held roles as a Specialist and Senior Design Engineer. In 2010, they were hired by Dorling Kindersley as a Software Developer. In 2013, they joined NESTA as a Code for Europe Fellow and Folk Labs as Technical Director. From 2016 to 2018, they worked at The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (The RSA) as a Fellow. Paul is currently employed by Provenance, where they serve as Head of Engineering and Lead Product Developer.

Paul Mackay obtained their Information Systems Engineering MEng from Imperial College London in 1999, majoring in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. In 2010, they obtained a Permaculture Design Certificate from the Permaculture Association.
