Stefan Atev has a diverse work experience spanning several companies. Stefan began their career as an Extreme Blue Intern at IBM, where they worked on the SashXB project. Stefan later joined the Advanced Internet Technology Group at IBM as an Intern, where they contributed to projects related to Semantic Web technology.
After their time at IBM, Atev joined the University of Minnesota as a Research Assistant, where they developed video analysis software for transportation-related research projects. Stefan also served as a Teaching Assistant for the Computer Science department, receiving positive reviews for their teaching methods.
Moving on, Atev worked at Vital Images as a Scientist and later as a Senior Scientist in Algorithm Development. Stefan optimized the 4D brain perfusion application and gained expertise in deconvolution-based and model-based methods for perfusion computations. Stefan also led the redesign and implementation of Vital's data loading and normalization pipeline.
Currently, Atev is a Principal Software Developer at Proto Labs, where they are involved in toolpathing, probing, and CAD application integration for CNC Mill/Turn CAM software. Stefan has also contributed to the refactoring of the C++ application and libraries to support both CNC Mill and CNC Lathe.
Stefan Atev completed their education with a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota in 2011. Prior to that, they obtained an M.S. in Computer Science from the same university in 2007. Stefan earned their undergraduate degree, a B.A., from Luther College in 2003, majoring in Computer Science and having a minor field in Physics. Stefan began their academic journey at the Sofia High School of Mathematics, specializing in Mathematics and Computer Science from 1992 to 1999.
