Sir Martin Landray started their work experience in 1996 as a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Pharmacology and General Internal Medicine at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Birmingham. Sir Martin then worked as a Specialist Registrar at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust before joining Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust as a Consultant Physician in 2002. At the University of Oxford, they held various roles including Clinical Research Fellow, Senior Lecturer, Reader in Epidemiology, Deputy Director of the Big Data Institute, and Professor of Medicine & Epidemiology. Sir Martin was also a Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton College, Oxford. From 2018 to 2021, they served as the Research Director at Health Data Research UK. Currently, they are the Chief Executive Officer of Protas, starting in 2021.
Sir Martin Landray obtained their A-levels from Abingdon School in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK from 1982 to 1987. Sir Martin then pursued their MB ChB degree in Medicine at the University of Birmingham from 1987 to 1992. Afterwards, they earned a PhD in the field of Cardiovascular disease in chronic kidney disease from the University of Birmingham, completing it in 2001.
