Rui Marques started their work experience in 1994 at Avetel where they held the role of DAF until 2000. Rui then joined Eurico Ferreira in 2000 as DAF and worked there until 2005. In 2005, Marques joined Grupo Proef SGPS as CFO, and their employment status there is ongoing.

Rui Marques obtained a Licentiate degree in Economia e Gestão Empresarial from ISLA between 1991 and 1995. Later, in 2003, they pursued further education and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finanças from Faculdade economia do Porto.
