John Detling has extensive work experience in various roles and positions. John is currently serving as the Brigade Commander for HQ 16th Engineer Brigade. Prior to this, they worked at Priority Dispatch, Inc., where they served as the Director of Information Technology and IT Manager. John also has experience in the Ohio Army National Guard as the Construction Facilities Management Officer. In addition, they have held positions such as Battalion Commander at 1st Engineer Battalion - 147th Regiment (RTI) and HQ 837th BEB. Before that, they served as the Executive Officer, Operations Officer, and Plans Officer at HQ 16th Engineer Brigade. John also worked as a Plans Officer and Brigade Engineer at HQ 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and as an Operations Officer at HQ 216th Engineer Battalion. Their early career includes roles as an IT Manager, IT Team Leader, and Software Developer at Aero Fulfillment Services, with a brief hiatus for military deployment. Overall, John Detling has a wealth of experience in leadership and information technology roles.
John Detling attended Ansonia High School from 1988 to 1992 and obtained their diploma. John then went on to study at Case Western Reserve University from 1992 to 1996, where they earned their BA in Computer Science. In 2010, John enrolled in the United States Army Command and General Staff College and completed the Common Core and AOC program, focusing on Military Operational Art and Science/Studies. From 2017 to 2019, they attended The United States Army War College, where they received their Master of Strategic Studies degree.
