Richard Wood has over 30 years of experience in various roles in the US Navy, including serving as a NFO and commanding officer for different units. Richard also served as a director of officer development for the Naval Service Training Command and as a professor of naval science and commanding officer for the Oregon State NROTC. Richard worked as a mathematics teacher at Fluvanna County High School before joining SAIC as a training analyst and exercise scenario developer. Most recently, they worked as the COMNAVAIRLANT Deputy Carrier Operations for Prevailance Inc.
Richard Wood attended the University of Virginia from 1978-1983, where they received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Richard then pursued a Master's degree in Engineering and Project Management from Old Dominion University from 1993-1999. In 1998-1999, they completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase 1 at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. In 2002, they completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase 2 at the Joint Forces Staff College. Additionally, Richard obtained a Virginia Collegiate Professional License in Math and Physics from the Virginia Department of Education, but the time of obtaining the license is unknown.
