Dan Carleton's work experience includes serving as President of Gear Gear, Inc since January 2013 and as a Manager at Heiko Machine Tools starting in 2013. From 2005 to 2008, they were the Global Gear Program Manager at American Axle and Manufacturing, where their responsibilities included establishing gear manufacturing programs in overseas plants and managing the purchase, installation, and training of employees. Dan also oversaw the import of machines from the US to China, Poland, Thailand, and India.

From 1967 to 1978, Dan Carleton attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and obtained an MA in American Literature.
