Brian Thomas is a Principal Consultant at PowerGEM focusing on development and maintenance of software applications based on PowerGEM’s PROBE software. Mr. Thomas is adding functionality adapting the PROBE software for long and short term production cost simulations, developing various regional models, and leading development of methods for modeling renewables energy, environmental emissions and carbon policies.
Prior to joining PowerGEM, Mr. Thomas worked for General Electric for 12 years. Most recently, he was responsible for development, maintenance, research and enhancements of GE’s Concorda suite of software products. As the Principal Engineer and Manager of PSLF software group at GE Energy Consulting, Mr. Thomas designed and developed several advanced applications within the PSLF software. He also led several projects in the Western Interconnection region, including WECC System Model Validation project, multi-year WECC RAS/SPS project, MOD-033 project with WECC and several R&D projects with BPA and US National Labs.
Mr. Thomas holds a MS degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. He has actively participated in various Industry working groups. Mr. Thomas has authored or co-authored a number of technical papers in the area of power systems analysis.
