Stephen continued their education at UC Santa Barbara and earned a Ph.D. in Bio-organic Chemistry with a specialization in enzymatic inhibition from 1971 to 1976. Later, they attended the University of California, San Francisco, where they obtained a Medical Doctor degree with a focus on Social Medicine from 1974 to 1978. Lastly, Stephen Cunnion pursued a Master's degree in Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology and international health at the University of California, Berkeley, which they completed from 1977 to 1978.
