Lorne Motley has had a diverse and extensive work experience in the media industry. Lorne joined Calgary Sun in 1985 and worked as a news editor, copy editor, and reporter. In 1997, they moved to Calgary Herald as a news editor and was later promoted to assistant managing editor and then to the position of deputy editor, where they served for four years. In 2006, Motley became the editor in chief of Calgary Herald, a position they held for a decade until 2016. In the same year, they became the editor in chief of Edmonton Journal and Edmonton Sun for a brief period of ten months. Lorne then joined Postmedia Network Inc. in 2016 as the vice president editorial for the West Region. Since August 2017, Motley has also been appointed as the editor in chief of Calgary Herald-Calgary Sun.
Lorne Motley completed an Advanced Diploma from Hugh Sutherland School between 1982 and 1984. Later, they pursued Journalism and obtained a Diploma from Mount Royal University, graduating between 1984 and 1986.
