James O'Brien's work experience has been in various fields. James is currently the Co-Founder & CEO of Polycarbin, a company that focuses on recycling plastic waste from the biopharma and life science industry to create laboratory products while helping customers meet their sustainability goals. Prior to this, they were a Medical Student in the Physician Scientist Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine from 2017 to 2019. James also worked as a Postbaccalaureate Researcher at the National Cancer Institute from 2016 to 2017 and as a Medical Assistant and Teacher at Dominican Volunteers USA from 2015 to 2016. James O'Brien has also gained experience as a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2013 to 2015 and as a Peer Tutor and Undergraduate Research Assistant at Providence College from 2012 to 2015.

James O'Brien attended Providence College from 2011 to 2015, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology/Biological Sciences. Following this, they pursued their medical education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine from 2017 to 2022, obtaining a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
