Claudia Serrano

Public Health Policy Research & Analysis Specialist at Policy Wisdom

Claudia Serrano completed a MSc in global health and development at University College London. In parallel to her Masters, she was a team member for the research Migrant Health at the Borders in times of Covid-19: Assessing Gaps, Needs and Priorities in the Implementation of Human rights-based Policies and Programs in Ecuador. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana USA. As a student she was recipient of the International Development and Peace Studies Kellogg Research Grant, member of the Dean’s List, member of the International Sociology Honor Society, among other awards.

She worked at the World Bank as Environmental Consultant, co-managing the Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Community of Practice and acting as a core team member for the Pollution Management and Environmental Health Program, where she focused on the health impacts of land-based pollution and air quality. She was part of task teams for several papers, proofed documents and supported on tasks for their publication. She also provided implementation support, follow up on action items and activities, organization of knowledge sharing, dissemination events, and online courses, etc. for projects in several countries in Latin America. Prior to this experience she worked as external consultant supporting an environmental affiliate on aspects related to stakeholders’ education on recycling and its impacts on the environment, including capacity training, developing training material, and assisting with the preparation of an education strategy for schools, and the redesign of the food donations program. She was a trainee at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva, assisting in the development of proposals and trainings on immunization, HIV, nutrition, among others. She also has experience as researcher on projects related to Colombia’s Peace Treaty, research projects that included stakeholder interviewing, and has done desk research on issues such as prevention methods for cancer, diabetes, and dementia.

Claudia is a native Spanish speaker, is fluent in English and has basic knowledge of French. She is currently based in Ecuador and in Q1 2023 will relocate to Portugal.
