Software and Signal Processing Lead at Pointcloud

Steven Fortune has a long and varied work experience in software and signal processing. In 2018, they were the Software and Signal Processing Lead at Pointcloud Inc. From 2015-2018, they were a Freelance Vision System Developer, working on projects such as calculation of vision transformation of fiducial markers on PCB pick and place machine and development of vision system in for Robotic Lawnmower, on embedded system. From 2011-2015, they were an Imaging Engineer at ROBOT VISION LAB LIMITED, where they developed a robotic cupping system for rotary dairy sheds, a teat recognition/tracking system using time-of-flight 3D camera, a robot control system with Fanuc and Kuka industrial robots, and integrated and tested the system in an industrial environment. From 2008-2011, they were a Research Assistant at the Medical Physics Group, University of Edinburgh, where they developed advanced MRI techniques for cardiovascular research in rodent models, developed a dynamic rodent cardiac phantom for imaging development, and performed 3D image segmentation and feature extraction. From 2006-2008, they were a Research Assistant at the Institute for Digital Communications, University of Edinburgh, where they worked on blind dereverberation of audio signals and developed a model based approach to blind dereverberation of audio signals, incorporating speech classification methods into dereverberation. In 2006, they were a Software Developer at Intranel Ltd, where they developed an audio processing toolbox for observational research and transcription package in C++, including audio visualisation, voice activity detection, speaker identification and filtering functions. In 2005, they were a Research Assistant at the Acoustics Research Group, University of Canterbury, where they produced results and prepared manuscripts for research journal papers, writing code for parallel computing simulations, analyzing and presenting results.

Steven Fortune obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Canterbury in 2005. Steven had previously obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the same university between 1997 and 1999.
