Marina Kriek

Marina Kriek is a highly experienced professional with a diverse range of work experience. Marina recently joined Playbook as a Software Engineer in October 2022. Prior to that, Marina worked at The Delta from August 2020 to September 2022, also as a Software Engineer. Before transitioning into software engineering, Marina worked at USB as a PHD Graduate from February 2018 to December 2020. Their main project involved creating and demonstrating the use of quality control software tools for discovery proteomic mass spectrometry, resulting in two publicly available software tools.

Marina has also worked as a Microbiologist at Afriplex Pty Ltd from May 2015 to January 2018, where they were responsible for all microbiological work in the facility. Their role included tasks such as running the microbiological laboratory, ordering and budgeting, equipment maintenance, method validations, and more. Prior to that, they held the position of Junior Microbiologist at Afriplex Pty Ltd from May 2015 to March 2016.

Before joining Afriplex, Marina worked as a Microbiologist at Microbial Biological Fertiliser international from November 2013 to May 2015. Their responsibilities included producing and importing biological fungicides and fertilizers, as well as collaborating with other companies on professional seed treatment.

Marina began their career as a Masters student at Stellenbosch University from January 2012 to April 2014, where they obtained their Masters degree in wine biotechnology. Their research focused on monitoring chitin levels in wine yeast and gene transcription during increased chitin production. Marina gained experience in flow cytometry and RT-PCR during this time.

Marina Kriek's education history is as follows:

From 2008 to 2010, Marina attended Stellenbosch University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Biotechnology.

In 2011, they continued their studies at Stellenbosch University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Microbiology.

From 2012 to 2014, Marina enrolled at Stellenbosch University once again and pursued a Master of Science degree in Wine biotechnology, specializing in Microbiology.

In 2016, they attended Shaw Academy, where they earned a Diploma in Web Development.

Marina also obtained a Certificate in Internal Auditing from SA GAP and a Certificate in Fire Science/Fire-fighting from Safetech. The specific years for these certifications are not provided.

Currently, Marina is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biomathematics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology at Stellenbosch University, with an expected completion date in 2020.
