James Nicholas Barry

James Nicholas Barry has a wealth of experience in engineering and research. James Nicholas began their career in 2006 as a Junior Engineer/Production Line Designer at Tyco Fire & Security. Here, they worked with high end fire and security surveillance electronic devices and interacted daily with senior engineers and site/company directors. In 2007, they moved to Dunreidy Engineering as a Junior Engineer/P&ID designer, where they designed P&IDs and Isometric drawings for a Glanbia cheese plant in Kilkenny. In 2008, they joined Barry Design and Training as a Junior Engineer, working closely with verification/validation standards for pharmaceutical companies. In 2009, they began their PhD research at University College Dublin (UCD), focusing on the evaluation and development of a novel low temperature deposition technology. During their time at UCD, they also acted as a Principal Investigator/Commercialisation Specialist, leading a commercialisation project focused on composite bonding and supporting a number of PhD students. In 2013, they accepted a Post-Doctorate Researcher/Commercialisation Engineer position at UCD and became an Adjunct Lecturer at NUI Maynooth. Finally, in 2017, James Nicholas Barry joined PlasmaBound as Technical Director, where they work with the company's Controlled Polymer Ablation (CPA) technology.

James Nicholas Barry obtained a First Class Honours Bachelors Degree in Engineering (mechanical) from the University of Limerick between 2004 and 2008. James Nicholas then completed a PhD in Research into novel coating methods at University College Dublin between 2009 and 2013. In 2016, they were certified in Project Management by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). In 2015, they obtained a Coursera Verified Certificate in Innovation for Entrepreneurs: From Idea to Marketplace with a distinction.
