Matthias Crauwels has a diverse work experience. From 2004 to 2007, they worked as an Assistant Network Administrator at Karel de Grote Hogeschool. From 2007 to 2017, they worked as a Software Developer at Universiteit Gent. From 2017 to 2022, they worked at Pythian, first as a MySQL Database Consultant, then as a Lead Database Consultant, and finally as a Principal Consultant for Pythian's Open Source Database Practice. In 2022, they began working at PlanetScale as an Enterprise Customer Engineer.

Matthias Crauwels' education history includes a Bachelor of Science in Informatica from Ghent University, a Bachelor in Toegepaste Informatica from Karel de Grote-Hogeschool, and a field of study in Informatica from the University of Antwerp. Additionally, they studied Economics and Mathematics at Sint-Ursula-Instituut.
