Ossi Heinänen has a diverse work experience spanning over several organizations. Ossi started their career as a Member of the Board at Osuuskunta Aula in 2000. From there, they became the Secretary General of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki and worked in this role from 1999 to 2002. Ossi then transitioned to the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL) as the Youth Work Manager from 2003 to 2008. Following this, they served as the Chairman of the Board at the Finnish Youth Co-Operation Allianssi, a national service and lobbying organization for youth work, from 2006 to 2009. In 2008, they took on the role of Development Director and Head of the Your Move Campaign at Nuori Suomi, a youth sport campaign promoting a new youth sport culture in Finland. Ossi held this position until 2011. From 2010 to 2015, they were the Chairman of the Board at the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region (HOAS), which provided housing for students and exchange students. Ossi Heinänen served as a Member of the Ethical Council at Veikkaus Oy, a Finnish gambling company, from 2009 to 2016. Ossi then joined FIBS, the leading non-profit corporate responsibility network in Finland, as a Board Member from 2015 to 2018. Additionally, they were the Chairman of the Board at the Finnish Fundraising Association (VaLa ry), which aimed to support responsible fundraising, from 2015 to 2018. Lastly, they currently hold the position of Chief Executive Officer at Plan International Finland, a child rights organization that focuses on improving the rights of girls in developing countries.
Ossi Heinänen received a Master of Social Sciences degree in Political History, North American Studies, and Communications from the University of Helsinki in 2003. Ossi attended Järjestöjohdon koulutusohjelma, Sefek Oy from 1999 to 2000. Prior to that, they attended Haukilahden lukio from 1989 to 1993 and Hinsdale Central High School from 1990 to 1991.
