Josh Young has a diverse work experience spanning multiple organizations and roles. Josh is currently serving as the Executive Director at Phoenix Bioinformatics, where they focus on ensuring strong connections between research infrastructure builders and users. Previously, they worked at UCAR as the Unidata Community Services Manager and as the Interim EarthCube Science Support Office (ESSO) Project Manager. In these roles, they helped oversee and govern EarthCube project activities, which aimed to create an integrated environment for sharing geoscience data and knowledge. Josh has also held positions as a Lecturer at the University of Colorado Denver, a Program Manager for the Interagency Ocean Observation Committee at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, a Wetland Project Manager at the SC Dept. of Health and Environmental Control, and an Enforcement Inspector at the SC DHEC Ocean and Coastal Resource Management. Additionally, they worked as a Coastal Specialist, assisting with the design of HumanDimensions.gov, an interagency portal focused on applying human dimensions to natural resource management.
Josh Young's education history begins in 1998 when they enrolled at Lees-McRae College. Josh completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2002. Later, from 2005 to 2007, they attended the College of Charleston and earned a Master's degree in Environmental Science. Continuing their academic journey, Josh then pursued a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado Denver, completing it in 2016. Currently, they are enrolled at the University of Colorado Denver once again, seeking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Affairs, which they are projected to complete in 2024.
