As an avid cyclist, Douglas believes there’s no better way to explore cities than by bike. “I consider it controlled, wonderful chaos,” he says. “Nothing makes me feel more free; it’s almost like flying.” That’s why it’s fitting that he’s become a dedicated urbanist and city planner since he began his career in the early Aughts, and now focuses on transportation, infrastructure, and complex, transit-oriented community planning and development. Through a unique combination of public and not-for-profit service and private-sector consulting roles, Douglas has developed a strong commitment to sustainable, resilient, and equitable transportation and community planning projects. He is comfortable working with multiple government entities simultaneously to enable redevelopment with new transportation facilities, affordable housing, parks, and cultural amenities—frequently in historically underserved neighborhoods.
