Brian Murphy has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Brian started their career as a Research Associate at American Legal Servers in 1995. From 1996 to 2005, they worked as a History and Government Teacher at Marlborough Public Schools, where they also coached Girls Tennis and advised clubs and activities. In 2002, Brian co-founded Colonial Power Group, Inc, an energy consulting company, where they were responsible for business development, sales, marketing, regulatory compliance, and customer service. In 2009, they joined Summit Educational Group as the General Manager of the Course Materials and Services Division, where they successfully increased revenue and doubled divisional revenue in five years. From 2017 to 2020, Brian worked as an Account Executive at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Currently, they hold the position of Regional Director for Educational Partnerships at PBLWorks, where they focus on providing high-quality project-based learning to students and building the capacity of teachers and leaders in implementing these projects.
Brian Murphy attended the College of the Holy Cross from 1986 to 1990 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. During their time at Holy Cross, they also studied French and History at Aix-Marseille University from 1988 to 1989. In 1992, they pursued further education at the University of Connecticut, where they acquired a Master of Arts degree in History. In 1997, Brian briefly attended Harvard University, focusing on Media and American Democracy.
In addition to their formal education, Brian Murphy holds a certification as a Certified Energy Procurement Professional from the Association of Energy Engineers, although the specific year and month of obtaining this certification are unknown.
