Lucy Oates is a researcher with a strong focus on just transitions and sustainability, currently working at PBL Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving since September 2023. As a PhD candidate at Technische Universiteit Delft, Lucy investigates sustainability transitions in urban service delivery in the Global South, emphasizing social and environmental justice. Prior roles include serving as a research fellow at the University of Leeds, where Lucy explored solutions to challenges posed by urbanization and climate change in developing cities, and as LANDac Coordinator at Utrecht University, managing a network dedicated to equitable land governance. Earlier experience includes conducting research on rural livelihoods at Tropenbos International, traffic planning at Transport for London, and a research internship at Redd Forests in Australia. Lucy holds a Master’s Degree in International Development from the University of Amsterdam and a Geography (MA Hons) from The University of Edinburgh.
