Michael Pate has practiced intellectual property law since 2005, building a respected practice preparing and prosecuting patents in the technical areas of AI, machine learning, complex software, electronics and semiconductors, optics, communications, internet, industrial products, medical devices, and transportation.
Prior to joining Patterson + Sheridan as an of counsel attorney in 2022, Michael practiced at firms in Washington, California and Utah, where he refined his technical knowledge patenting automotive control systems, mechanical systems, optics, networking and digital circuit technologies.
Michael is an inquisitive learner who strives for daily self-improvement. In 2014, he returned to school to pursue a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Utah, during which he performed funded research with respect to metamaterials. He earned his law degree and bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University. Michael’s education amplifies his aptitude as an IP attorney, allowing him to quickly grasp novel technologies both holistically and in their individual mechanical and electrical aspects.
