Karen Garvey, MPA/HCA, BSN, DFASHRM, CPHRM, CPPS, has a range of experience in the healthcare industry. Karen held the role of Vice President, Safety & Clinical Risk Management at Parkland Hospital starting in June 2014. Prior to that, they worked at Cleveland Clinic as a Senior Director from September 2010 to June 2014. Before joining Cleveland Clinic, they were Director of Clinical Loss Prevention at Tenet Healthcare from September 2005 to September 2010.
Karen Garvey holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in Healthcare Administration from Cleveland State University. Karen also completed a healthcare/patient safety executive leadership program at Harvard University in 2013. In 2008, Karen completed the HRET Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship and a Patient Safety Leadership Fellowship at IHI/HRET. Karen has additional certifications as a Distinguished Fellow from the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM) in 2017, a Sr. Patient Safety Leadership Fellow from Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET) in 2008, a Certified Professional in Patient Safety from IHI in 2014, and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk from ASHRM.
