Armin Baier has been working in the field of substance abuse treatment since 1989. Armin began their career as a Psychotherapist at a Los Angeles-based private practice in 1986. In 1988, they joined the Personal Service Unit at District Council 37, AFSCME, as an Employee Assistance Professional. In January 2009, after 20 years of developing the Parallax Center's programs in the role of Clinical Director, they changed positions and became the Director of Special Projects and Development. In this new capacity, they work closely with the Executive Director to direct and coordinate the development of new Parallax Center programs and endeavors, create training materials, do presentations and trainings on behalf of the Parallax Center, supervise and manage funded research projects, analyze research statistical data, provide direction to staff in the review and application of policies and practices, and co-author articles and reports concerning research findings. Armin is also a Gestalt therapist working with individuals and couples with a variety of psychiatric conditions and life concerns.
Armin Baier's education history includes a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1973-1975), a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School (1976-1979), Gestalt Therapy Training from the New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy (1985-1986), a Master of Social Work from the New York University School of Social Work (1981-1988), and advanced training in relational Gestalt therapy from the Pacific Gestalt Institute (2009-2010).
