Matthew Callaghan has worked as a Development Scientist at Oxford Nanopore Technologies since May 2022. Prior to that, they were a Research Specialist at NIZO from December 2018 to November 2019. Their earlier experience includes being an Early Stage Researcher at NIZO from September 2015 to August 2018.

Matthew Callaghan attended The University of Sheffield from 2011 to 2015, where they earned their MBioSci in Molecular Biology. After completing their undergraduate studies, Matthew enrolled at Wageningen University & Research to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Anaerobic Microbiology. The end year for their PhD program is not provided.
