Chance Claxton has a long and varied work history, beginning in 1991 as the Director of Berlitz Language Centers. From 1994 to 1997, they were the Co-Founder of Pentimento, a company that created high-end decorative ceramic vases and housewares. In 1997, they joined Design Within Reach as the second employee, taking on the roles of Buyer, Launch Team Member, and Product Sourcing. From 2008 to 2021, they were the Co-Founder, President, and Product Developer of U-Konserve, a line of waste-free lunch and food packaging solutions. Most recently, they have been the Co-CEO/CBO of Orbis Brakes Inc., a company that creates high-performance, lighter, more sustainable and less expensive brakes than traditional brakes.

Chance Claxton attended San Diego State University from 1984 to 1989, where they earned a B.A. in International Business with a minor in Spanish. In 1987, they also attended Universidad de Salamanca in Spain to further their studies in Spanish.
