John Dorfman has extensive work experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on design and development. John worked as a Staff Mechanical Engineer at Optimal Design, a Deloitte business, where they were involved in designing augmented reality devices and working on iterations of head-mounted displays for The Void. Prior to that, they worked as a Mechanical Engineer II at Motorola, where they designed various components for telematics products and conducted design verification testing. John also gained experience as an Associate Mechanical Engineer at Allen-Bradley, where they worked on a PLC development project and performed FEA using Pro/Engineer-ANSYS. Additionally, Dorfman had internships as a Lab Tech at Rayovac.
John Dorfman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completing their studies from 1993 to 1997. Besides their formal education, they have obtained various certifications throughout their career. These include the Professional Engineer certification from the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation in July 2007. In more recent years, they have also completed several online courses, earning certifications such as the Optical Engineering Certificate and Design of High-Performance Optical Systems from Coursera in January 2021. Moreover, they completed courses on topics like Modern Robotics: Mechanics, Planning, and Control in September 2022, Optical Efficiency and Resolution in December 2020, and First Order Optical System Design in November 2020, all through Coursera.
