Vaclav Potesil

Founder, Chief Business Officer, Board Of Directors at Optellum

Dr. Vaclav Potesil is an experienced professional with a diverse work history. Dr. Vaclav is the Founder, Chief Business Officer, and a member of the Board of Directors at Optellum since September 2021. In this role, they lead partnerships with companies like Johnson & Johnson and GE Healthcare to position Optellum as a leading provider of Artificial Intelligence decision support software for early lung cancer interception.

Prior to their current position, Dr. Potesil served as the Founder and CEO of Optellum from May 2016 to August 2021. During this time, they focused on developing the first FDA-cleared AI-powered decision support software for early lung cancer diagnosis.

Before joining Optellum, Dr. Potesil worked at Hocoma AG as a Global Product Manager from April 2013 to April 2016. Dr. Vaclav led the development pipeline for the Armeo product line, which combines exo-skeleton robots with virtual reality games to facilitate neuro-rehabilitation.

Dr. Potesil also has experience as an Investor, managing personal and family portfolios mainly in equities and real estate from 2000 to 2014.

In addition, they co-founded a project called RehabOx, which aimed to improve compliance with rehabilitation exercises at home. Although the project was put on hold, Dr. Potesil successfully secured intellectual property, built a team, and pitched to investors.

Dr. Vaclav has also worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Medical Image Analysis at the University of Oxford and Mirada Medical Ltd. from June 2011 to October 2012. During this time, they developed commercial-ready libraries for image registration technology.

Furthermore, Dr. Potesil worked as a Research Scientist in Medical Image Analysis at Siemens Healthineers from July 2007 to July 2011. Their work focused on developing computer vision algorithms for lung cancer diagnosis and treatment planning.

Dr. Vaclav is also the co-founder, Vice-President, and Board Member of the Oxford and Cambridge Alumni Society Czech Republic from January 2006 to January 2011. This organization united alumni from Oxford and Cambridge universities and launched successful outreach programs for Czech high school students.

Dr. Potesil gained research experience as an intern and research assistant at Siemens Healthineers, Tampere University of Technology, and Omron, where they focused on computer-aided diagnosis and medical image analysis.

Throughout their career, Dr. Potesil has demonstrated expertise in AI software development, medical image analysis, product management, investment management, and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Vaclav Potesil has an extensive education history in various fields. Dr. Vaclav began their academic journey at Gymnazium Brno-Reckovice from 1993 to 2000, where they earned their Grammar School degree. Moving forward, they attended Brno University of Technology from 2000 to 2005, obtaining an Ing. (M.Eng) in Electrical Engineering. In 2004, they pursued further education at Tampere University of Technology, completing an M.Eng in Information Engineering in 2005. Dr. Potesil then joined the University of Cambridge in 2005 and completed an M.Phil in Computational Biology in 2006. Later in 2006, they attended Cambridge Judge Business School for a short period to study the Management of Technology and Innovation. From 2006 to 2011, they focused on their D.Phil (PhD) in Engineering Science with a specialization in AI, Computer Vision, and Medical Imaging at the renowned University of Oxford. Additionally, Dr. Potesil attended Saïd Business School, University of Oxford in 2010-2011 to delve into the field of SIP, Technology, and Innovation Strategy.
