Michael Kitchin has a diverse and extensive work experience. Michael worked at Operational Systems Inc (OSI) as a Chief Technologist, where they contributed to various projects involving web-based tools for infrastructure planning and natural disaster mitigation, insured asset management systems, and enterprise messaging and event processing. Michael also had experience as a Senior GIS Software Engineer / Scrum Master at Vaisala, where they provided geospatial solutions for product development and production. Additionally, they worked at Tideworks Technology as a Technical Lead / Senior Software Engineer / Scrum Master, where they developed specialized Enterprise Service Bus and contributed to marine/rail container terminal workflow management. Michael also had roles as a Senior Software Engineer at Action Engine, Technical Lead / Senior Software Engineer at 21st Century Systems, Inc., Senior Software Engineer at NAVSYS Corporation, Contract Software Engineer at Valkeir Corporation, Senior Software Engineer at Integral Systems, Inc., and Director of Technical Development / Software Engineer at Aeroflex. Through these experiences, they gained expertise in various domains such as national-scale infrastructure planning, meteorology, autonomous UAVs, container terminal management, and spacecraft control systems.
Michael Kitchin's education history began in 1988 when they attended Sandy Spring Friends School and obtained their High School Diploma in 1989. Michael then enrolled at Goddard College in 1990 and transferred to the University of Maryland in 1992. Michael completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland from 1992 to 1994, earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Geography and Astronomy.
In addition to their formal education, Michael Kitchin obtained certifications in the field of Agile project management. In October 2019, they became a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) through the institution Mountain Goat Software. Michael also obtained the Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) certification from the Scrum Alliance in December 2014.
