Royce Vavrek is an accomplished librettist and bookwriter, currently active with Houston Grand Opera, Opera Philadelphia, and Fort Worth Opera, among others. Notable works include "The House Without a Christmas Tree" with composer Ricky Ian Gordon, "Breaking the Waves" with composer Missy Mazzoli, and "JFK" with composer David T. Little. In addition to librettist roles, Vavrek serves as bookwriter and co-lyricist for "Midwestern Gothic" with composer/lyricist Joshua Schmidt. Vavrek's expertise extends to collaborations with Beth Morrison Projects, Brooklyn Philharmonic, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, where "27" was created with Ricky Ian Gordon. Previous experience includes serving as a Music Theater Initiative Assistant at The Public Theater. Vavrek holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production from Concordia University and a Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theater Writing from New York University.
