Abzal Mahmud has extensive experience working as a software engineer and programmer, with their current role being a software engineer at Ookla starting in May 2022. Abzal spent the majority of their career at Forsta, starting as a programmer in August 2013 and working their way up to Senior Programmer until May 2022. Abzal also worked at RemitONE Ltd as a software engineer from October 2011 to July 2013. Prior to that, they had short-term roles as a freelance database developer and a census collector. In 2009-2010, they worked as an analyst programmer at Osmani Trust.

Abzal Mahmud attended Queen Mary University of London from 2006 to 2009 where they earned a BSc in Computer Science. Additionally, in December 2017, they obtained certification in Preventing Workplace Harassment - International from Emtrain.
