Aaron Lockton

Principal Engineer – Advanced Sensing at ONYX Insight

Aaron Lockton has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Aaron started their career at QinetiQ in 2004 as a Communications Engineer, where they conducted testing and development of various communications systems. Aaron then joined HITCO Carbon Composites in 2007 as a Race Engineer, providing trackside support to Formula 1 teams and testing new brake materials.

In 2009, Aaron moved to Romax Technology as a Test & Instrumentation Engineer, working on instrumentation projects for wind turbine drivetrains and industrial machinery. Aaron later became a Lead Systems Engineer at Romax, focusing on developing measurement systems and integrating hardware and software components for data acquisition and condition monitoring.

Currently, Aaron is employed at ONYX Insight since 2017, initially as a Lead Systems Engineer and now as a Principal Engineer - Advanced Sensing. In this role, they provide technical authority and leadership for the Advanced Sensing Team, overseeing product development, research, project delivery, and troubleshooting. Aaron also offers technical training and mentoring to new staff and solves problems impacting project delivery and hardware manufacturing.

Throughout their career, Aaron has demonstrated expertise in areas such as digital electronics, software development, networking, wireless technologies, sensors, data management, and system health monitoring. Aaron has a track record of delivering successful projects in various sectors and has experience in rigorous testing, both in lab-based and on-site environments.

Aaron Lockton completed their high school education at Diss High School - Sixth Form Centre from 1996 to 1998, where they obtained their A-Levels. Aaron then pursued a Master's Degree in Physics at the University of Nottingham from 1999 to 2003. Additionally, Aaron has obtained several certifications including LPI Linux Essentials from the Linux Professional Institute in April 2017, Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Institute of Physics in May 2015, Security+ from CompTIA in December 2022, and GWO Wind Turbine climbing and Rescue from heightec in September 2021. Aaron also has certifications in LabVIEW Core 1,2, Real Time 1,2, and FPGA from National Instruments, although the specific dates of obtaining these certifications are not provided.
