Yulei Zhang has worked as a Research Scientist at OmniAb, Inc. since November 2022. Previously, they worked in the same role at Ligand Pharmaceuticals starting in October 2021. At Ligand Pharmaceuticals, Yulei's responsibilities included analyzing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) raw data, troubleshooting sample preparation, analyzing sample diversity, and calculating developability properties for partner projects. They also demonstrated proficiency in learning and applying new tools to understand antibody repertoires and actively collaborated with internal experimental teams on various topics such as generating structural models to understand the binding sites of bi-specific antibodies.

Yulei Zhang completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 2013. From 2013 to 2015, Zhang pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Subsequently, Zhang attended the University of Michigan where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from 2015 to 2017. Following this, Zhang furthered their education at the University of Michigan and completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemical Engineering from 2017 to 2022.
