Valerie Leersum is an artist and educator with extensive experience in various artistic and educational roles. Currently serving as bestuur at Sence of Place and conducting research as an artist at Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen, Valerie also contributes to the Oerol Festival with projects focused on the horizon and is involved with the Ambassade van de Noordzee through the Parliament of Things. As a city artist for Over het IJ Festival, Valerie engages with residents in Amsterdam-Noord to explore community spaces. Valerie’s teaching experience includes tutoring and coaching students at the Hoge School voor de Kunsten Utrecht and leading workshops for children at the NSDM kinderatelier. Valerie's notable past roles include serving as an artist in residence at CBK Amsterdam Zuidoost and participating in the Kibii Foundation's Moengo Festival of Visual Arts in Suriname. Valerie holds a Bachelor of Arts from HKU and has furthered education in Didactiek at the same institution.
