Carl Walz has a diverse work experience in the field of space exploration and technology. Carl started their career as a Flight Test Engineer in the United States Air Force, where they managed and conducted high-priority tests of classified government R&D projects. Carl then joined NASA as an Astronaut, where they flew on four spaceflights and spent a total of 231 days in space. During their time at NASA, they also held managerial positions, including Manager of the Life Support and Habitation Program and Director of Advanced Capabilities, where they supervised various research and technology development projects related to human space flight activities. After their tenure at NASA, Carl held leadership roles at Orbital ATK and Oceaneering, focusing on business development and overseeing space systems and flight operations. Currently, they are working as a Business Development Consultant at Oceaneering Space Systems.
Carl Walz obtained their Bachelor's degree in Physics from Kent State University in the years 1974 to 1977. Carl then pursued a Master's degree in Physics at John Carroll University from 1977 to 1979.
