Nicole Straughan has an extensive work experience in the field of youth and education programs. Nicole currently holds the position of Vice President of Youth & Education at Ocean Wise since July 2023. Prior to that, they served as the Director of Ocean Bridge from November 2020 to July 2023, and as the Director of Youth from December 2019 to November 2020. Nicole also worked as a Manager for the Ocean Bridge Program from November 2017 to December 2019, and briefly as a Manager for Children & Youth Programs at Ocean Wise from June 2017 to November 2017.
In addition to their roles at Ocean Wise, Nicole worked as an Urban Outreach Representative at the Canadian Wildlife Federation from September 2015 to November 2017. Before that, they held multiple positions at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, including Manager of Children & Youth Programs from April 2015 to November 2017, and Camp Coordinator from June 2013 to April 2015. Prior to their time at the Vancouver Aquarium, Nicole worked as a Camp Educator at the same institution from June 2011 to September 2012. Nicole also has experience as a Camp Counselor at YMCA Canada from July 2008 to September 2009.
Nicole Straughan completed their Master of Arts degree in Environmental Education and Communication at Royal Roads University from 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Zoology/Animal Biology from Thompson Rivers University from 2007 to 2011. In addition to their degrees, Nicole has obtained certification in Wilderness/Remote Location First Aid from the Canadian Red Cross.
