David Cias is an experienced corporate attorney currently serving as Senior Counsel at Occidental since May 2019, where corporate counsel responsibilities include assisting commercial clients with asset acquisitions and divestitures, contract negotiation, and legal risk assessment. Prior to this role, Cias was an Associate Attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP from April 2017 to May 2019, focusing on complex transactions in the oil and gas sector, and at Thompson & Knight LLP from March 2014 to April 2017, assisting with similar acquisitions and divestitures. Cias began a career in the oil and gas industry as an Independent Petroleum Landman from 2004 to 2013, providing land services and managing complex title issues, and also held the position of Land Negotiator at Encana Corporation. Cias holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from SMU Dedman School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English and Religion from Hampden-Sydney College.
