Samantha Fennessey has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Samantha currently holds the position of Associate Director, Scientific Initiatives, Office of the Scientific Director & CEO at the New York Genome Center since April 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Scientific Collaboration Manager at the same organization from May 2021 to April 2023.
Before joining the New York Genome Center, Samantha worked at The New York Genome Center for several years, starting as an Associate Scientist III from September 2014 to April 2015. Samantha then served as a Library Prep Supervisor from April 2015 to May 2016, Assistant Scientific Project Manager from May 2016 to August 2017, Associate Scientific Project Manager from August 2017 to August 2018, and finally as a Scientific Project Manager from August 2018 to May 2021.
Prior to their work at The New York Genome Center, Samantha was the Next Gen Lead at GeneDx from July 2012 to September 2014.
Samantha also gained experience in the field of forensic molecular biology as a Teaching Assistant - Laboratory Preparation at the University at Albany from August 2011 to December 2011, and as a Student of Forensic Molecular Biology where they obtained a Master of Science degree from August 2010 to December 2011.
Samantha also had an internship at the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center from July 2011 to December 2011.
Samantha started their career as a Chemist Aide at the New York State Department of Health from June 2008 to August 2010.
Samantha Fennessey obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry Biophysics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. After that, they pursued higher education at the University at Albany, SUNY from 2010 to 2011. During this period, they earned a Master of Science degree in Forensic Molecular Biology.
